What side of the debate are you on?
Do you eat breakfast? Do you believe it’s “the most important meal of the day”?
Just think about it for a second. Even if you’re not hungry when you wake up, your body hasn’t had any nourishment for…what…eight, ten hours? Maybe more?
How are you supposed to function throughout your morning without feeding your body?
Food = Energy. It’s simple to me.
What do I do when I wake up? I drink a ton of water. By a ton I mean a big glass. It’s tap water-I’m not extreme. It’s cleansing and preps your body for what’s next (that would be food). Even better, squeeze some lemon in there and stir up those digestive juices and kick start your liver!
What you choose as energy isn’t as simple. If you’re in a rush, there is nothing better for you than a smoothie. Mix together some fruit, maybe yogurt, maybe not, some sort of milk (dairy or otherwise), throw in a little probiotic, maybe some flax, maybe some spinach-whatever you feel like and whatever you’ve got! Just avoid throwing in sugar and you’re good to go.
If you have a little more time, maybe a lazy morning on the weekend, you can always make this:Yum. A whole grain English muffin topped with a big honkin’ slice of tomato and some baby spinach. Just waiting for an egg. Forget about anything that starts with “Mc”…and make it yourself. You’ll save yourself the gas, money and junk going into your body.
Plus local tomatoes taste GREAT right now. They actually taste like a tomato. Imagine.
And really, you can make this on a random Wednesday if you have time. What better way to motivate yourself until Friday than an awesome breakfast?
