Popeye really had something.
These days, when I make a green smoothie for my kids, popeye has nothing to do with it. Because the blank stares don’t get the smoothies down their necks.
You know what does? The Hulk.
So Hulk Smoothie it is! Even if it’s not green…there’s spinach in there…trust me.
I make a lot of “hulk versions” of food in my house. Hulk smoothies, hulk pancakes, hulk eggs…and the kids LOVE them. And I love them because they’re getting so much added nutrition without even tasting it. And they eat them and pretend to be strong like the hulk and that makes me smile.
Why spinach? Well first of all, it blends really well. I LOVE kale but you know when kale is in your smoothie. That’s an adult hulk smoothie.
It’s also full of delicious fibre and is important for skin and hair, bone health and provides vitamins like A, K, C, B1, B2, B6, E and minerals such as manganese, folate, iron, copper, magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc and it has protein. Phew. That’s a mouthful…a mouthful of AWESOME. HULK SMASH!
What do I make when I’ve over indulged and need to cleanse?
This one has blueberries, kefir, plain yogurt, chia seeds, spinach and milk.
So delicious. So healthy. And so sneaky. I’ve even put spinach in brownies. It’s awesome and because my kids don’t know it’s awesome it deserves an evil laugh…MWA HA HA HA HA HA…
Oh-another awesome recipe? CREAMED SPINACH. But healthier (do I need to say obviously?)…keep posted, I’ll have that recipe for you sometime…soon…ish. We just ran out of spinach otherwise I would make some tonight. Mmm…creamed spinach.
