We all have those items we feed our kids without even thinking twice.
Mine is monkey milk.
This all began years ago when my kids were very young. They would want a snack in the afternoon, and I can’t remember if they didn’t WANT to eat fruit ir if I was just trying to incorporate more into their diet…but monkey milk was born.
It all started with simply blending a banana into milk. It was so simple, and they LOVED it. The riper the bananas, the sweeter the milk. I think part of them really loved the flavour, and part of them just really enjoyed drinking from a straw, instead of a cup.
What was the number one reason they loved it?
The name, of course. Monkey Milk. It just sounds fun!
No matter the reason, it was my go-to snack for them. Or even for breakfast, with some toast or yogurt. It’s become a staple in our house.
Sometimes we forget about the simple things. It’s not all about elaborate recipes with 18 different ingredients. Sometimes nourishing our families is all about simplicity. Real foods, sitting around the table together, talking, laughing. Having milk come out our nose because we’re laughing so hard.
Why do I love this drink?
I love it because it’s easy to make and super nutritious. Now that my kids are a bit older, I love the versatility. I use alternative milks like unsweetened almond milk or vegetable based milk like veggemo. I can add nut butter for an extra protein hit, vanilla for a decadent flavour, or to give the kids a total treat at breakfast time, I added cocoa powder and date paste to make a sweet shake they absolutely LOVED. But the base is simple. Bananas and milk.
I highly recommend Monkey Milk to any Moms who are looking for ways to switch up the snack or breakfast routine. Some kids aren’t a big fan of smoothies or shakes, but THIS is different.
