As you know, I love to bring my kids into the kitchen. They especially love making breakfast which I am 100% encouraging because once I’m comfortable with them making breakfast, that means I DON’T HAVE TO MAKE BREAKFAST.
Don’t get me wrong, I love making food for my kids (really, I do) and they’re more than capable of grabbing some fruit and yogurt if they’re starving and I can’t make them something immediately. But encouraging them to make a dish or two on their own is a step in the right direction, no matter which way you look at it.
Start small, and with items they can manage and enjoy, and they’ll keep coming back for more. For instance, smoothies.
I love smoothies and my kids see me drink them all the time. So naturally, they want one of their own. And you can sneak so much goodness into them!
Luckily, Food Revolution Toronto is doing a great contest this month-you guessed it-smoothies! On Food Revolution’s Facebook page, they post a challenge every month and if you participate, you could win a Jamie Oliver cookbook. So cool.
Being a Toronto Ambassador for the Food Revolution, I have a copy of Jamie’s latest book, so we were able to look up some smoothie recipes on our own. You can find the ones for the challenge here. Just make sure you enter before the end of March! Below are all the details.
I love the smoothies in this challenge because they all contain fruit, or veg, and are super simple to make. Just throw everything in a blender and turn it on! KIDS LOVE BLENDERS.
I had a blast with my kids making these smoothies. They all chose a different one and we all got to try them. Which one was the favourite?
It might surprise you…but it was the green one!
Don’t avoid anything, thinking your kids won’t like it. Try everything and your kids will too.
Enter this contest! Find Food Revolution Toronto on Facebook and start making smoothies! It’s the perfect time to start something new with your kids. And don’t forget the hashtag #CookWithFoodRevTO so they can see you and enter your name in the contest.
In fact, feel free to tag me too so I can see them! (@nutritionnaire)
I LOVE smoothies, my kids love smoothies, and I would love to see your morning smiles along with a smoothie made by your kids.
